About the data: where our RV dump station listings come from

Quick answer: Every station on RV Dump Station Finder comes from OpenStreetMap, the open map built by volunteers. We take a snapshot (latest: July 15, 2026), map each station to a US state and city, and publish fee, hours, water, and access exactly as tagged. Nothing is added by hand except reviews readers submit.

What is the source?

All 1,588 dump stations come from OpenStreetMap features tagged amenity=sanitary_dump_station in 49 states (plus DC where present). The RV campground directory (11,816 listings) also comes from OpenStreetMap. Data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Which fields do we show?

What are the limits?

OpenStreetMap is edited by volunteers, so some stations are missing, closed, or have stale fees and hours. When a field is empty we show "Not listed" instead of guessing. 1,060 station pages have almost no detail beyond location, so we keep them out of search engines (noindex) until they have more information.

How often is it refreshed?

The current snapshot is dated July 15, 2026. New station and city pages are published in batches, and every page shows the date it was built. We do not claim real-time accuracy.

Who runs the site?

RV Dump Station Finder is run by Mark, an RVer based in Maryland. Read about the mission and the planned cross-country trip. Stations he personally uses on the trip get a "Reviewed on the road" badge with the month of the visit. No station has that badge unless he actually used it.

How can I correct a station?

Use the report form, leave a review on the station page, or fix it in OpenStreetMap so every map benefits. Contact: [email protected].

Frequently asked questions

Where does the dump station data come from?

From OpenStreetMap, using features tagged amenity=sanitary_dump_station in the United States. The snapshot used for this build is dated July 15, 2026.

How current is the data?

It is as current as the latest OpenStreetMap snapshot, dated July 15, 2026. Pages show the build date and each station's last OpenStreetMap edit when it is known. Fees, hours, and status can change after that, so confirm before you go.

Why do some stations say Not listed?

OpenStreetMap had no value for that field. We show Not listed rather than guess.

How do I fix a wrong station?

Use the report form on this site, or edit the station in OpenStreetMap directly. OpenStreetMap edits show up here after the next data snapshot.

Are reviews on this site from the owner?

Only reviews marked Reviewed on the road are from the site owner, and only for stations he actually used. Other reviews come from visitors and are read before they appear.
